Team MOAB dominates at Booker T and gets ready to Grind the Monkey
Team MOAB fueled by OS Performance Nutrition showed up and threw down in Chattanooga this month at the Booker T. Washington mountain bike race. MOAB’s title sponsor Murfreesboro Outdoor and Bike put together a great team for 2010 to attack the road, mountain and ‘cross scene across the southeast. Including 2009 Team OS racers, Team MOAB made their presence felt in most of the 2010 TBRA road events and mountain bike contests. With the end of the road season, MOAB will continue to race in the dirt in anticipation of cyclocross.

Team MOAB racers ready for another dirt contest
MOAB’s racers came home with several podiums from Booker T:
Shawn Millican—1st place, Cat 1 19-29
Jon Harrison—3rd place, Cat 1 40+
Mike Taglio—3rd place, Cat 3 40+
Kurt Page—1st place, Clydesdale
We can’t wait to watch Team MOAB’s dominance in the mountain and ‘cross circuit this fall/winter. Next is Monkey Grinder at Montgomery Bell, one of Tennessee’s most beautiful state parks with a wonderful dirt trail. Team MOAB sponsors and promotes these short track and XC races on Sept. 11-12. Team members will be working those days to make sure their fellow competitors are well taken care of. You can be sure that there will be plenty of OS drinks, signs and swag there to show our support of Tennessee race action.

Young swimmers clock new personal best
The taste of OS Performance Nutrition drinks is light and pleasing. Those that drink it often crave one particular flavor. When first tasting OS some will say, “It doesn’t have enough flavor.” They change their minds once exertion begins and their taste sense is naturally enhanced. Then you’ll hear them say, “This stuff tastes just right—not too sweet like others I’ve used.” For that reason, the OS engineers searched for just the right level of sweetness, concentrating on flavors that are pleasing and not overpowering when the athlete heats up.

Young athletes with Kool-Aid TM tastes are the most likely to favor sweeter, lower calorie sport drinks focusing only on the flavor and not knowing or caring about the performance benefits to be gained by taking in good fuel before, during and after their sport activities.
Two young swimmers we know learned early on that good sports nutrition is what it takes to give that extra edge they needed to trim time from their personal bests. Nicole and Joey Clemmer swim with EXCEL Aquatics in Mufreesboro , TN. Nicole, a dedicated 12-year-old, makes sure Dad locates a suitable training pool near wherever he’s planning their next vacation. She already knows that an athlete can’t take long vacations from training. She also knows that the OS Pre-load she drinks on the way to swim meets takes away the concern many swimmers have whether or not they ate the right breakfast or did they eat it early enough to digest before they get in the pool. She may not know the exact reason, but when her body begins exercising it makes sure her muscles get all the blood flow they need. If her stomach is trying to digest breakfast, her system needs blood to make that process happen, but it won’t get it while she’s swimming. Her muscles always win this battle. That undigested bacon & eggs sits there and her stomach could get unhappy about that; stomach cramps or at least discomfort result. OS Pre-load has been the answer for Nicole and her swim time improvements show it.
Brother Joey just knocked 20 seconds off of his best 200m time in a June meet. That’s about a 10% improvement—very impressive for any age athlete, but outstanding for a 10-year-old. Like big Sis, Joey loves his OS Pre-load and also, like Nicole, he finds he needs more fuel during the long days of multi-event swim meets. They tell us that cherry flavor OS Sprint provides exactly what they need during the day. Snacking on foods or energy bars between events is better than nothing, but that can cause the same stomach problems as pre-swim meals. The osmotic formula of all OS drinks is the key to intaking the energy fuel an athlete of any kind needs.
Swimmers of all ages can step up their strokes with smart nutrition provided by OS.
It feels good to be independent

OS-sponsored pro-rider Nicky Wangsgard (Rooster’s) is racing independently this season. Lack of a team hasn’t hurt too much judging by her wins to date: Valley of the Sun criterium and road race, Calleville Bay road race and criterium, Tour of Depot stage race overall, Sunny King criterium, Scotts Valley Grand Prix, and second place at Bike Jam. Racing independently, Nicky’s has the “green light to win as many races as possible and increase the possibilities of earning a spot on the 2012 Olympic team” according to her.
This month, Nicky raced the three-criterium weekend in Oklahoma called the Tulsa Tough. The name doesn’t belie the difficult nature of this series.
Nicky’s excerpted report follows:
"I went to Tulsa to podium, but unfortunately fell inches short. My best finish was 4th place on Saturday night. Positioning was the secret this weekend. With most of the big teams in Philadelphia for the Liberty Classic…there were no regular lead out trains. You had to be very crafty in the finishing sprints
There was a hill in the criterium known as “cry baby hill” because of the length and pitch. Yep, there were several tears shed on this hill. Unfortunately, [after a missed break] I missed the counter attack by Vera Bradley’s current Canadian National Champion Allison Testroete. I made two bridge efforts, but fell short. We had only ten laps to go at this point so I was out of luck for a chance to sprint for the win. Coryn Rivera ended up winning this last [Sunday] stage. I ended up finishing 8th overall.
With the hill, only 30 of us ended up finishing this race. With temperature in the 90s and a 3pm race time, this was one of the hottest days on my bike yet this year. The Endurance formula of OS kept me afloat. This picture shows the fastest wheels in the country (Edge 65 tubular wheels) and the most efficient bike I have every raced, the Parlee Z4."
We at OS Performance Nutrition wish Nicky the best this season, and with her long term goal to “found a new women's professional cycling team that has the potential to become the next best cycling team in the nation.” We’ll bet OS Performance Nutrition will be party to that campaign.

Pro-training with OS
There's a lot going on in the athletic world in Wisconsin these days.
Peak Performance Professionals (P3) brings together highly experienced fitness and wellness professionals from a wide spectrum of disciplines to offer the area’s premier endurance and fitness training center. This team is led by Bob Hanisch, former Head Coach for USA Triathlon, and a man who has devoted more than two decades to helping athletes of every level reach their performance and fitness goals.
Bob Hanisch contacted us seeking a better nutritional solution for the athletes he trains in Brookfield, WI. Some of his clientele, local Team EXTREME team members, told him how well OS Performance Nutrition products worked for them and Bob just had to see if there was something to it. Now Bob's trainees from swimmers to endurance sports to cyclists will have the opportunity to hear from a pro what it takes to fuel their engines without stomach discomfort. Bob's experience as a tri-guy and coach will help him recognize the benefits OS drinks offer his athletes and they be glad he told them when they see the difference in their performance. |
